PARENTS MUST STAY WITH THEIR CHILDREN PLEASE - we have never operated on anything but a "stay and play" basis, and are not qualified to look after children. Our Youth Workers are here to help but cannot stay with individual children or take children to the toilet etc. These rules are for safeguarding and safety reasons, thank you for your understanding.

A thrill seeking day for young people who have SEND, plus siblings! Activities will include zip coaster (min. weight 4.5 stones), king swing and indoor wall, plus other activities which will take place between 10-3. Transport can be provided to and from Hexham.
Lunch is included for children and adults!

Party in the woods for Ellen and Tara!
After what seems like an eternity, our amazing youth workers Ellen and Tara are leaving to go to Uni! We want to show our appreciation for the work that they've done over the years and for how much effort they have put in, so we're moving the final club of the term to the woods where we will have a little celebration for them! Please do join us if you can :)

“Finally, I have found my people”
Welcome to Tanga!
An inclusive, supportive network for families who have young people aged up to 25, who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Fully inclusive youth & social groups
Since 2019, we have operated a term-time youth and social group for our families. The foundation stone of our charity, this weekly club takes place in Hexham Community Centre and offers a safe, non-judgemental space where parents & carers and siblings & friends get as much benefit as our young people with SEND.
Tanga in the woods
Usually happening in school holidays and sometimes weekends, Tanga in the woods is not your average forest school! Specially thought out and ran by a qualified forest school practitioner with many years’ experience, this is one relaxed day in the woods where everyone can chill out.
Parent & Carer support
We have regular “cuppa and chat” type meetings as well as online support, training and workshops, and access to professionals such as Occupational Therapists. The Tanga team has a wealth of professional and lived experience which we are happy to pass on to help with the complexities surrounding parenting young people with SEND.
Tanga Family weekend away
Around 160 Tanga family members have attended Center Parcs Whinfell Forest for the last 3 years. The value in “strength in numbers” is what makes this trip so special, and thanks to some very generous funders, we heavily subsidise the trip.
Parent & Carer retreats
We hold several retreat days across the year for parents and carers of children with SEND. Examples of these are: woodland retreats and campfire meal, holistic therapy days and pottery making sessions.
Quiet Tanga & daytime sessions
We recognise that some of our activities are very busy and sometimes a bit loud, so we hold quiet sessions for those who prefer a calmer atmosphere.
Our story
Tanga Club was formed in 2019 by a parent of two children - one who is Autistic and one who is Neurotypical. At the time, there was nowhere to take both children together where they could play, make friends and learn with age and ability appropriate activities, where behavioural challenges would be understood and accepted as part of family life with children who have SEND. The founder set about to change all that, creating a place where all children - diagnosed or not, regardless of ability or disability, could meet other families who were experiencing similar issues to them. Starting with a youth and social group in Hexham, Tanga Club was born!
