Who are we?
We were founded in 2019 by a mother to two children - one Autistic and one with no additional needs. Gathering together a group of parents in similar situations, she established Tanga Club!
Our ethos and priorities are the same now as they were back then: high quality, inclusive activities for young people with additional needs, where siblings and friends without additional needs can also attend; and parent & carer support with a focus on maintaining and improving mental health.
We have hundreds of members from Northumberland and beyond - membership is free, but we only take new members when we are sure we have the capacity to do it safely and effectively - we have a very small staff team and an army of volunteers to run events and activities for all our families!
We are very careful not to replicate the good work of others, so everything we do is original - no one was providing it when we set it up - although we are often approached by other organisations in different areas and have been happy to help them establish provisions for families near them. We do not believe in duplicating activities that already exist, for obvious reasons! Instead, we aim to stay original and unique, and signpost our families to other services which may be relevant to them.
We are a registered charity in England and Wales, no. 1190621, and managed by a board of Trustees. Our Charity Commission page contains our latest set of accounts. We are grateful to our funders and donors for their continued support which enables us to provide the essential services that we do for our families.
